Calcium is essential for many functions in the body, including :

◆ Preventing bone loss associated with osteoporosis which is common in pre and postmenopausal women
◆ Needing for muscular growth and contraction
◆ Aiding the nervous system, especially in impulse transmission.
◆ Regulating the heart rate & helps to prevent cardiovascular disease.
◆ Serving as a protective factor against high blood pressure & colon cancer.
◆ Stimulating hormone secretion & blood clotting mechanism.
Dosage:
5-12 years – one capsule once daily
13 years and above – one capsule two times daily

Side effects:
Nausea, flatulence and constipation in some individuals
Drug interaction:
◆ Calcium supplements can have an antagonistic effect on the desired action of calcium channel blockers that could precipitate the re-emergence of arrhythmias.
◆ H2 blockers and proton pump inhibitors can decrease the absorption of calcium salts.
◆ Calcium may decrease the absorption of quinolones and tetracyclines.
Contraindication:
◆ Hypercalcaemia and hyperparathyroidism
